Traditions for the New Year

The national traditions of each country are as unique as the combination of cultures of its inhabitants can be. The arrival of the New Year is always the most striking event, which is arranged, sometimes prepared for several days before its arrival. For example, in Italy, it is customary to greet the holiday on the street with kisses. The Italians celebrate by throwing out of the windows unnecessary junk and all sorts of old things, making room for new ones. Saying goodbye to the old and welcoming the next year, even though, like water, years and time run by, it is a kind of invisible frontier that approaches with evening, followed by night and the point of some holy culmination for many, and then the first morning of the New Year, full of mystery and hope.
New Year’s Eve fireworks in the cities (in the Chinese tradition they ward off evil spirits), decorating windows, houses and streets with colorful garlands on New Year’s Eve, the custom of giving gifts for children and for each other, holiday performances, brightly colored outfits and wreaths of flowers, a holiday dinner or an impressive party characterize the spirit of celebration in most countries.
