Feast of Christ the King, also called Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, festival celebrated in the Roman Catholic Church in honour of Jesus Christ as lord over all creation. Essentially a magnification of the Feast of the Ascension, it was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925. Originally a Roman Catholic feast, it is now observed by Christians of all denominations as a way to recognize and honor Jesus Christ as the 'King of Kings.
We celebrate the feast days of saints, events that mark salvation history, and the dedication of churches all to commemorate the ways the Lord has been and continues to be at work in the world. This rhythm of feasting reminds us of our duty to put God at the heart of everything we do.
