Birthday of Matías Ramón Mella - February 25 - Consulate DR Amsterdam. Dominicans commemorate the anniversary of the birth of one of the Fathers of the Fatherland, born on February 25, 1816. He accompanied Duarte, Sanchez and other Trinitarians in the foundation of Dominican Republic. With a blunderbuss at the Puerta de la Misericordia on February 27, 1844, Mella marked the beginning of National Independence. Today, February 25, we commemorate the Dominican Armed Forces Day.
