National Student Day in Ecuador

It is a tribute to all those student heroes who gave their lives to achieve the right to freely enter to study in the universities of the country.

The student movement has historically starred in countless battles, one of the most important took place on May 29, 1969, when a group of young people took over the facilities of the Casona Universitaria in the city of Guayaquil, demanding free admission to universities. The protest left 30 young people murdered and 140 tortured. In memory of these events is commemorated every "May 29" the National Day of the Student.
