The name "Fernando" is of Germanic origin, an adaptation of "Fredenand" that derived to Latin "Ferdinandus". It means "he who is bold, daring and willful".
Ferdinand III was King of Castile and Leon, born in 1198 and died in Seville on May 30, 1252. He is the patron saint of the Arm of Engineers of the Spanish Army. During his reign the Kingdom of Jaen, the Kingdom of Cordoba, the Kingdom of Seville and Extremadura were reconquered. Forcing the Muslims to retreat. He was also a member of the Third Order of St. Francis.
Every May 30 is also celebrated the feast of King Saint Ferdinand III, patron saint of Spain. Saint Ferdinand was a man of immense faith. As a ruler he always acted inspired by Christian values, which contributed greatly to the greatness of his nation.
