Photography is first and foremost a profession. With different styles, diverse looks and defined objectives, photographers celebrate their day in Argentina. Every September 21, Photographer's Day is commemorated in Argentina and other Latin American countries due to the arrival of the daguerreotype in Latin America. The technique was created by Louis Daguerre in France in 1839, when he started the process by which a positive image is obtained from a copper plate coated with silver iodide.
This novel invention changed photography worldwide. Before the advent of the daguerreotype, images were portrayed through painting.
The daguerreotype generated great repercussions throughout the world. Some of its representations included portraits of important historical figures such as Mariquita Sánchez de Thompson, Florencio Varela and General Tomas Iriarte.
