The National Salsa Day is celebrated thanks to a proposal made by the Ministry of People's Power for Culture and will be celebrated on October 3, 2020. After the Venezuelan salsa movement collected 1,400 signatures and delivered them to the head of the Ministry of Culture, Ernesto Villegas, it was announced that the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, accepted the proposal and decreed October 5 as "National Salsa Day".
This initiative for the collection of signatures by the artists, cultors, creators and creators of salsa began in the month of September 2020. This instrument encompasses, under the name of salsa, a group of Afro-Caribbean musical rhythms and was supported by the National Music Company Foundation (FCNM) and the Corazón Salsero Foundation.
National Salsa Day in Venezuela is celebrated in honor of Venezuelan broadcaster Phidias Danilo Escalona, who was born in Caracas on October 5, 1933. Escalona produced and hosted several radio programs in renowned radio stations, from where he accompanied the Caracas public for many years.
