National Pulque Day in Mexico

Within Mexican gastronomy there are several popular and frequently consumed beverages, which depending on their characteristics may be suitable for consumption by everyone, or some reserved only for adults. Drinks such as aguas frescas of horchata, jamaica, tamarind are popular as an accompaniment to Mexican food, or atole, made from corn dough, which is generally the main accompaniment to rich tamales. Pulque is an alcoholic beverage with a strength of 2 - 8 %, derived from the fermented juice of the Agave American.

Music, as an element that allows us to focus on our own time, accounts for many of the things that surround us. Thus, between the 70's and 80's in Mexico you could hear on Mexican radio an amusing song called "Los pulques de Apan", composed and performed by Chava Flores, which described with precision and wit, the daily life of the pulquerías in the then called Distrito Federal (Federal District).

This was an account of the popularity of the pulquerias, which were a meeting and recreational space for a large part of the population.
