The state capital of Hanover invites young and old to the Tiergartenfest. The Tiergartenfest is one of Hanover's event highlights in the fall. Once a year, always on the 2nd Saturday in October, the 'Tiergartenfest' is held in the zoo. The zoo is freely accessible and admission is free.
Hanover Zoo (in the Kirchrode district of Hanover) is a 112-hectare recreational forest with free-roaming red deer. It is one of the oldest game reserves in Germany and was established at the end of the 17th century as a court hunting ground.
For more than 40 years, the large "Dankeschönfest for the hard-working acorn and chestnut collectors" has been an event highlight in the fall. The following hands-on activities are planned: Building nesting holes, sawing and burning tree slices, forest quiz, making gnomes and candle holders as well as button design.
