The Nuremberg Autumn Folk Festival, also known as the "Herbstfest", is one of the largest folk festivals in Bavaria and takes place every year between the end of August and the beginning of September on the fairground at the Dutzendteich. The festival beer is brewed especially for the folk festival and is somewhat stronger and maltier than the usual beer.
At the Volksfest you will find a variety of rides for young and old, from the Ferris wheel to the wild water ride to the bumper cars. In the 14 festival tents you can enjoy delicious Franconian food such as bratwurst, sauerkraut and Steckerlfisch.
On the first Sunday of the festival, there is a parade with traditional costume groups and bands. On the last Friday of the festival, a large fireworks display lights up the night sky over Nuremberg.
The first Nuremberg Folk Festival was held in 1824 to celebrate the wedding of King Ludwig I of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. Since then, the festival has been held every year, with the exception of a few years during the wars. Over the years, the Nuremberg Folk Festival has developed into one of the most popular folk festivals in Germany. It is a great opportunity to experience Franconian culture and cuisine and to have fun with friends and family.
