The Day of the Young Combatant is the denomination with which the murder of the young brothers Rafael and Eduardo Vergara Toledo is commemorated in Chile in the commune of Estación Central, perpetrated on March 29, 1985 by agents of Carabineros de Chile during the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. The same day the young Paulina Aguirre was also executed and the teachers Manuel Guerrero Ceballos and José Manuel Parada Maluenda, victims in the Degollados case, were kidnapped.
The date has become a milestone that brings together adults and young people, who demonstrate year after year to repudiate the crimes committed during the military dictatorship, as well as to demand truth and justice regarding the human rights violations perpetrated by the State agencies during that time. Due to the disorders that have developed on that date, its detractors have referred to it in a pejorative way as the "Day of the young offender".
