It is one of Slovakia's official remembrance. The Sl. National Council – a kind of predecessor of the present-day Slovak parliament – was created on September 15, 1848 and on 19 September initiated the Slovak Volunteer Campaigns of 1848/1849. On 19 September 1848 in Myjava, the Slovak National Council declared independence from the Hungarian government and called on the Slovak nation to start an armed uprising. However, the Council only managed to control their local region.
