Georgia on March 3 celebrates Mother's Day, this day is a day off in the country.
The history of the holiday is connected with the name of the first president of Georgia, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, who in 1991 submitted it to the parliament for approval. The new holiday was supposed to replace International Women's Day on March 8, as March 8, on Gamsakhurdia's initiative, was canceled. Under the presidency of Eduard Shevardnadze, March 8 was returned to the status of a holiday. Thus, both March 3 and March 8 are celebrated in Georgia.
