Pyramids are always associated with Egypt but do you know that Sudan is home to more pyramids than Egypt? Sudan has long been under the rule of Britain until its formal independence in 1956. The independence is a product of an agreement between Britain and Egypt to give Sudan the opportunity for self-governance and national identity in 1953. The country's name derives from the Arabic bilad al-sudan, which means “land of the blacks.”
Sudan celebrates Unity Day yearly every 3rd of March. It is a celebration of peace and unity in all regions of Sudan, particularly the North and parts of South which suffered heavy strife during the civil war.
