25 April - World Penguin Day
Penguins are amazing birds! The black and white “tuxedo” look donned by most penguin species is a clever camouflage called countershading. A group of penguins in the water is called a raft but on land they're called a waddle! Most penguins live in the Southern Hemisphere. Penguins eat a range of fish and other sealife that they catch underwater.
It’s no secret that wildlife all across the planet is in danger in the 21st century. With increasing pollution levels and rising temperatures due to global warming, there are many species at risk. All penguin species face challenges due to changes in their ecosystem such as over-fishing. World Penguin Day is a day for people all around the world to recognise the remarkable flightless birds that inhabit the Antarctic.
