In 73.0% of family households, a man is recognized as the head, and in three out of 10 (27.0%), it is a woman who assumes this role. Female heads of family households spend an average of 33.2 hours per week on household chores, and male heads 11.1 hours per week.
Since March 2005, Family Day was instituted in Mexico, establishing it on the first Sunday of March, in accordance with the decree of former President Vicente Fox. The purpose of commemorating this day is to promote family integration and union, as well as to highlight the social transcendence of the family and build a favorable culture for it, through education. It also seeks to create awareness of the importance of family homes, with the purpose of facing and creating public policies aimed at protecting the bonds of its members.
