It has been commemorated on June 1 since 2002, after the Council of Professionals in Sociology made it official by resolution No. 55/2002, through publication in the Official Gazette of the Argentine Republic. The day was chosen to commemorate the creation of the first Chair of Sociology in Argentina, which was taught in 1898 by Dr. Antonio Dellepiane at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires.
