The purpose of the action is to raise awareness and sensitize the world community and the medical community to the issues of early diagnosis, treatment and research of scleroderma, and to show solidarity with scleroderma patients.
June 29 is a day to recognize the courage of people living with scleroderma and to call for equal treatment and care for scleroderma patients worldwide. The choice of the day is not accidental, it coincides with the death of Paul Klee, the Swiss painter who suffered from the disease and who died on June 29, 1940.
Since 29 June 2009 we have been celebrating a day to commemorate this rare autoimmune disease, which affects 3 people out of every 100,000 inhabitants. At first, the day was celebrated as European Scleroderma Day. Since 2010, however, it has become a global initiative as countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia and other South American countries have joined this European initiative.
