November 12 is a special day for all postal workers in Mexico. Those who travel great distances, either by vehicle, bicycle or even on foot to deliver mail to millions of homes.
This day is celebrated thanks to the feat performed by a postal worker. It is said that in the times of the Revolution, a train loaded with 50 million in gold and military correspondence had an accident, which claimed the lives of approximately one hundred people. The letter carrier, in an act of bravery and honesty, preferred to recover as much gold and postal packages as possible, to return them to their destination.
This act was rewarded with the official commemoration of Postman's Day by President Pascual Ortiz Rubio, which has been celebrated every November 12 since 1931. Likewise, in 1947, to celebrate the letter carriers, a stamp dedicated to this profession was issued for the first time.
