The Catholic feast known as the "Epiphany of the Lord or adoration of the Magi" is better known in Peru and its regions as "La bajada de Reyes", "Pascua de Reyes" or "La visita de los Reyes".
In Peru, as in different parts of the world, the "Bajada de Reyes" is celebrated on January 6th. The celebration consists of the family placing the images or statuettes of the three kings in front of the baby Jesus.
The Peruvian National Police also celebrates Three Kings Day and has the tradition that three of its members personify Melchior, Balthazar and Gaspar. They go around the Plaza Mayor to deliver gifts and sweets to the children in the surrounding area.
