Gachimuchi (Japanese: ガチムチ/がちむち) is an internet meme and subculture that originated in August 2007 on the Japanese video hosting site Nico Nico Douga. The Japanese word gachimuchi (Jap. ガチムチ) means "pumped up big guy" and the internet subculture, is based on the plot of gay porn movies from the 1990s. The reason this day is called "Gacha Day" is because one of the main and prominent members of this fandom, Van Darkholm, celebrated his birthday with Gachimuchi Day in honor of his birthday.
Van Darkholm (born October 24, 1972, South Vietnam) is primarily known for starring in Lords of the Locker Room, where he utters his catchphrase "fuck you", which has become one of the most famous quotes in the fandom. For his love of leather outfits, he was nicknamed Leatherman (from Leatherman, which is how he is disparagingly called by Mark Wolfe's character in Lords of the Locker Room; in other movies he is also often dressed in black leather). He ended his movie career in 2017, but since 2020, riding the wave of gachimuchi's popularity in Russia, he has been hosting streams on Twitch, where he engages in reviewing fan-suggested gacha remixes.
Gacha (ガチャ, "gacha") is a specific monetization mechanic characteristic of video games of mainly Asian origin, built around a large amount of content and a non-guaranteed chance of getting it. Games utilizing this mechanic are often referred to as Gacha games.
