It is believed that the unofficial holiday World Laziness Day (Día Mundial de la Pereza) originated in Colombia, in Itagui, an industrial center and densely populated city. It was founded in 1984 on the closing day of the Festival of Industry, Commerce and Culture. The festival is a socio-cultural event that presents all styles and genres of music: jazz, blues, salsa, rock, hip-hop, reggaeton, wallenato, electronic music, reggae pop, as well as such art forms as painting, dance, and theater. One day, Colombians realized that they really lacked peace and took to the streets to announce to the world that, in addition to the right to freedom, the right to information, and the right to choose, people need the right to be lazy.
The idea of celebrating the Day of Laziness was picked up because it's cool. For example, in Colombia and many other countries, this holiday is celebrated on August 20, and in the United States on August 10. The timing of the celebration is different, but the essence is the same: it's a great excuse to do nothing.
