The Cannstatter Volksfest or Wasen is the largest folk festival in Baden-Württemberg. Thanks to its attractions, it attracts around four million visitors to Stuttgart, the state capital of Baden-Württemberg, every year. The Cannstatter Wasen, the 37-hectare festival grounds along the Neckar, is an intercultural meeting place.
The folk festival first took place in 1818 as a one-day agricultural festival. The folk festival parade has been held since 1841.
According to their own statement, it is the largest festival of showmen in Europe. A stroll through the Cannstatter Volksfest is free of charge, as is entry to a marquee. However, you do have to pay for the fun: Rides, food and drink naturally cost money.
