Ah, but Vienna does have the mighty Danube river, whose long artificial Donauinsel island hosts the Donauinselfest: a weekend of music, fun and bleary-eyed Monday mornings.
The Danube Island Festival on the Danube Island in Vienna is an open-air music festival organized by the SPÖ Vienna and has been held annually on a weekend towards the end of June (until 1990: end of May) since 1984. With a cumulative total of almost three million visitors over three days, it would be the largest music festival with free admission in the world.
The Danube Island Festival is the SPÖ's counterpart to the KPÖ's Volksstimmefest, which has been held since 1946, and the ÖVP's Vienna City Festival, which has been held since 1978.
