The World Heritage Sites in Germany are as diverse in their type as they are in their geographical distribution. A total of 52 cultural and natural heritage sites in Germany are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Explore, experience and experiment - on site at the World Heritage Sites and throughout Germany!
The UNESCO World Heritage Day was launched in 2005 by the German UNESCO Commission together with the World Heritage Sites Germany Association. Since then, it has been celebrated throughout Germany every year on the first Sunday in June. Many of the 52 German World Heritage Sites join in the celebrations.
Each World Heritage Site is a place on a fascinating map of the cultural diversity of our planet and a place of learning for intercultural understanding. Especially for the people who live in the immediate vicinity of a World Heritage Site, "their World Heritage Site" represents an important point of reference and anchor point.
