Traditionally, the Romantic Festival of Lights around the swan pond is a popular highlight of the Schumann Festival.
The International Robert Schumann Competition is one of the most renowned music competitions in the world and takes place in Zwickau. It was founded in 1956, 100 years after Schumann's death. The competition takes place every four years and comprises two categories: Piano and voice. Separate prizes are awarded for pianists and singers, including a prize for the best song accompanist since 1989.
