The Kronacher Freischießen is the shooting festival of the Kronach Shooting Society and takes place every year in August. With around 300,000 visitors, it is the largest public festival in the Franconian Forest. The first free shooting took place back in 1588, and since then the courtyard meadow at the Schützenhaus has been transformed into a fairground every year.
The fairground opens daily at 14:00 (at the beer tasting at 17:00), on Sundays and public holidays already at 11:00. The music, fairground rides and beer tasting end at midnight every day, except on the two Fridays, the two Saturdays and the Monday before the feast of the Assumption, when the free shooting ends at 01:00.
