The Speyer Brezelfest is a folk festival in the city of Speyer that takes place every year on the second weekend in July from Thursday to Tuesday.
Dirndl Revival Party: More than 10 years ago, at the Brezelfest 2013, 1,973 dirndl wearers gathered in the large marquee. At that time, the Dirndl world record was brought to Speyer and entered in the Guinness Book of Records. At the beginning of 2021, beautiful drawings of the Brezelfest parades from 1912, 1913 and 1914 were found in the Speyer city archives. These were digitally processed and combined to create a virtual Brezelfest parade.
The pretzel festival in Speyer has a number of traditional elements:
Pretzel Queen: Every year a pretzel queen is crowned to represent the festival.
Historical pretzel festival parade: A parade with festively decorated floats and participants in historical costumes recalls the origins of the festival.
Dirndl Revival Party: A modern tradition where dirndl and lederhosen wearers celebrate together.
Music and entertainment: Live music, dancing and other cultural performances are an integral part of the Brezelfest.
The Brezelfest is a mixture of tradition and modern folk festival - an event that brings the community together and celebrates the city's history.
