The Arolsen cattle market has a long tradition dating back to the 17th century. Originally, it was a cattle market where farmers from the surrounding area sold their animals. Over time, the market developed into a folk festival with a wide range of goods and entertainment options.
Today, the Arolser Kram- und Viehmarkt is an integral part of North Hessian culture and a popular destination for people from the region and beyond; it is one of the largest folk festivals in North Hesse and attracts several hundred thousand visitors every year at the beginning of August.
