World Rainforest Day

World Rainforest Day is celebrated every year on June 22 to raise awareness of the importance and protection of rainforests. These fascinating ecosystems are not only home to more than half of all animal and plant species on earth, but also play a crucial role in climate protection.

Rainforests only cover around 6% of our planet's land area, but are home to an incredible diversity of species.

They are natural climate regulators and help to bind greenhouse gases.

Many of our modern medicines come from tropical plants that grow in rainforests.

Alexander von Humboldt (September 14, 1769) explored the rainforests of South America between 1799 and 1804 and laid the foundation for understanding their ecological diversity.

The day was first launched in 2017 by various organizations to draw attention to threats such as deforestation and climate change. Rainforests are not only an ecological wonder, but also a source of food, medicine and inspiration.
