The Sterkrade Corpus Christi Fair is one of the largest public festivals in Oberhausen and has a long tradition dating back to 1829. It originally arose from the Sterkrade municipality's desire to introduce an additional market day alongside the autumn market. Today, it is a six-day street fair that stretches over 2.5 kilometers through Sterkrade's city centre.
The Corpus Christi fair is officially opened on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the “Zum Ritter” beer garden. Since 1993, this has taken place on the day before Corpus Christi, which is still called “Kirmesheiligabend” by die-hard Sterkraders.
