15 June - Global Wind Day
"It is a day to discover the possibilities it holds to reshape our energy systems, decarbonise our economies and boost jobs and growth," says the globalwindday.org. Wind energy is one of the fastest-growing renewable energy sources in the world, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Wind energy has many advantages: it is cost-effective, it is a source of clean fuel and it is inexhaustible.
The tallest wind turbines stand on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. These two-blade turbines are mounted to towers 20 stories tall. Vermont is home to the first modern wind turbine, built in 1941.
