September 21 was declared Student's Day (Día del Estudiante) by decree of law on October 25, 1939 during the provisional government of General Carlos Quintanilla, thus paying homage to the country's young students.
The United Nations has defined youth as the age that goes from 15 to 25 years old. However, the purely chronological definition has proven to be insufficient.
September 21 is a special date because it coincides with the beginning of spring, an ideal time to prepare the land and sow most of the crops that feed mankind, taking advantage of the upcoming arrival of the rains. That's how students are the future of a nation.
