Rascal Flatts is a country music trio consisting of lead vocalist Gary LeVox, bass guitarist and keyboardist Jay DeMarcus, and electric guitarist Joe Don Rooney. Both Gary and Jay were born in Columbus, Ohio and Gary is an alumnus of The Ohio State University. The band began in 1999 in Nashville, Tennessee, but the groundwork for the group was set by Jay DeMarcus (vocals, bass, keyboards) and Gary LeVox (vocals), second cousins who grew up as close friends in Columbus, Ohio. The two members’ families often got together to play music, which instilled a love of music in the two cousins. In 1992 DeMarcus moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country music to work as a back-up vocalist for Michael English’s gospel album and brought Gary LeVox down to join him in the recording. With talent in several instruments, including guitar, bass, keyboards, mandolin, DeMarcus soon joined a Christian group called East to West. In 1997 DeMarcus convinced LeVox to leave his job and join him...
