National Women's Soccer Day was decreed on March 7, 2019 in Ecuador, by the unanimous vote of the National Assembly, with 93 legislators present at the ordinary session of the full Assembly. This day seeks to celebrate women who have participated in the sport of soccer and have excelled in the development of their work as athletes. The motion was proposed by Sebastián Palacios Muñoz as a mechanism to combat discrimination against women in sports.
