On July 24, the Day of the Bolivarian Navy of Venezuela is celebrated, in commemoration of the date on which the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo was fought in 1823. In it, the squads of Admiral José Prudencio Padilla and those of the Spanish commander Laborde clashed, who after an intense combat and due to the impetus and courage of the Creole patriots, had to capitulate and retreat.
The Bolivarian Navy of Venezuela is the component of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces in charge of ensuring naval defense and compliance with the constitution and laws, cooperating in maintaining internal order and actively participating in national development, in order to guarantee the independence, sovereignty and integrity of the Nation's aquatic spaces.
