The Baha’i Faith began in Jamaica in 1942, with the arrival of Dr. Malcolm King. A local spiritual Assembly was held in Kingston Jamaica in 1943 and the first Baha’i was elected. Then the Jamaican Baha’i became organized under the National Spiritual Assembly of the Greater Antilles.
In 1961, the Baha’i elected a National Spiritual Assembly for themselves. However, it was not until July 25, 2003 that the Baha’i faith became a recognized religion in Jamaica.
The Governor General at that time, Sir Howard Cooke declared the first National Day for the Baha’i on July 25.
The Baha'i community numbering just under 100 can be found mainly in Fairy Hill, Drapers, Port Antonio, St. Magaret's Bay, Hope Bay, Skeebo and Charles Town in Portland.
