26 January - Uganda Liberation Day
On this day in 1986, President Museveni came to power after 5-year guerilla war. Associated events are also expected throughout the country. Liberation Day is an annual celebration that marks the NRM taking power from Tito Okello Lutwas military government. Museveni led the NRM during the war and named himself president after removing Lutwa. Museveni came to power after waging a guerilla war for five years.
However, the opposition claims that Museveni has long lost his chance at gearing the country toward progress rendering the Liberation Day meaningless.
