National Heroes Day in Zimbabwe is celebrated on the second Monday of August to remember the brave men and women who died during their struggle for independence. On this day they are remembered at the National Heroes Acre where some of them are buried. The president and citizens come to pay their respects and offer wreaths of flowers. Patriotic songs are sung and marches are made to the site of the event. Musical performances and dances are also often organized.
