The Feast of San Marco celebrates the patron saint of the city with a procession of religious and civil authorities in Piazza San Marco. But in Venice it is also the party of lovers who exchange a rose (the bocolo). According to this legend, the tradition of the bocolo originates from a rose garden that grew near the original burial site of S. Marco.
Venice is one of those places that you simply have to see to believe. The city is truly one of the most unique places on Earth–but spending one day in Venice is definitely also an exercise in organization. Venice is full of beautiful and empty nooks and crannies, and if all you want from your visit is some canals and quiet time, Cannaregio, Dorsoduro, and Castello are the neighborhoods for you. The city of Venice is actually made up of a number of different islands, each with different characters and landmarks.
