Combate del Callao in Peru
Combate del Callao in Peru is held on May 2. Commemorates a semi-victory against the attack of the Spanish flotilla in 1866, during the Spanish-South American War. This event in the first decade of the month May is annual.

El Combate del Callao, también llamado Combate del 2 de mayo (1866), fue un enfrentamiento en aguas de este puerto peruano entre una escuadra de la Armada Española, al mando del almirante Casto Méndez Núñez, y las defensas del Callao, bajo mando del entonces Jefe Supremo de la República del Perú, Mariano Ignacio Prado, en el transcurso de la Guerra hispano-sudamericana.
Desde el combate, el 2 de mayo ha sido una fecha recordada en el calendario peruano, pues su nombre se impuso a una provincia, a un regimiento, a varios colegios, a un fuerte, a una plaza y a un importante hospital de la capital. La plaza del Callao, en Madrid, recibió su nombre en memoria de este hecho de armas.
