Perhaps the earliest known occurrence of cement is from twelve million years ago.
Edgar Dobbs of Southwark patented a cement of this kind in 1811.
In 1824, Joseph Aspdin patented a similar material, which he called Portland cement, because the render made from it was in color similar to the prestigious Portland stone quarried on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England.
For the remembrance of Inventor of Portland cement Joseph Aspdin, Department of Civil Engineering, Sona College of Technology, Salem and Indian Concrete Institute, Salem Centre jointly celebrated CEMENT DAY 2018 on 29th October 2018 in association with Ultratech Cements Ltd., Salem Region.
