The biologist is a professional who works in the various fields of Biology, that is, in all areas that involve the study of life. The profession became legal after law No. 6,684, on September 3, 1979, was enacted. This law also created the Federal Council of Biology and the Regional Councils. The Biologist's Day was instituted exactly on the same date as the creation of this law.
The biologist's area of expertise is quite broad and is divided into three main fields: Environment and Biodiversity, Health, Biotechnology and Production. Within these areas, biologists can work, for example, with bioethics, bioinformatics, pest control, management of biological collections, ecotourism, environmental education, water resources management, climate change, forensic expertise, environmental sanitation, genetic counseling, cytogenetic analysis, clinical analysis, animal testing, assisted human reproduction, gene therapy, development of genetically modified organisms, among many other fields.
