The Chilean Air Force (FACh) is the air branch of the Chilean Armed Forces. It currently has at least 12,000 troops. Its current commander-in-chief is Air General Hugo Rodríguez González (2023). Its task is to defend, maintain and guarantee national security and sovereignty over the airspace of the Republic of Chile.
It was created under the name of the National Air Force (FAN) by Supreme Decree No. 1,167, of March 21, 1930, which in its Article 1° states "The Aviation Services under the Ministries of War and Navy shall be merged"; in its Article 2° "An Undersecretariat of Aviation shall be created"; and in its Article 5°: "The Air Force shall constitute military and naval aviation units".
