In Chile more than 18 thousand people suffer or may be affected by the so-called "Tourette Syndrome", a neurological, chronic and genetic disorder that begins to manifest itself in childhood and adolescence with sudden movements and tics that are often misunderstood and teased.
In 2013, the European Society for the Study of Tourette Syndrome proposed June 7 as Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day. In addition, the time span between May 15 and June 15 has been consecrated as awareness month for the syndrome in question.
For these reasons, the Senate Chamber approved by 24 votes in favor and one abstention the project initiated in a motion of deputies that establishes every June 7 as the Syndrome Awareness Day, in honor of Dr. Mary Robertson, the most prominent professional in research and development in this area.
