The Paraguayan Book Day is celebrated in country every June 25 since it was established by resolution of the Ministry of Education and Worship, on June 9, 1980, in commemoration of the date on which the historian Ruy Díaz de Guzmán, concluded the handwritten writing of his chronicle "Annals of the discovery, population and conquests of the Río de la Plata", better known as "La Argentina", considered the First Paraguayan Book, and dedicated it to Alonso Pérez de Guzmán el Bueno, VII Duke of Medina Sidonia, of whom his father had been a page, dating it in Charcas, on June 25, 1612.
Paraguayan literature stands out for stories and poems by renowned writers who have left a great legacy to society, among the most influential are: Josefina Plá, Gabriel Casaccia, Elvio Romero, Rubén Bareiro Saguier, Manuel Ortiz Guerrero and Augusto Roa Bastos, in addition there are numerous other writers and authors, whose creations are enriching the intellectual heritage of country.
