International Women's Orgasm Day originated in Brazil in 2006, when Esperantina councilman José Arimateia Dantas Lacerda became interested in a study conducted at the Federal University of Piauí, which concluded that 28% of women in that region were unable to reach orgasm. The councilman considered that the study demonstrated a serious public health problem and, therefore, decided to promote an ordinance that would advocate for women's pleasure. The idea was to promote the right of women to externalize their desire and materialize it, putting them on an equal footing with the male population.
This was the date on which women's sexual right to pleasure was recognized, in a society where, in some cultures, female mutilation practices, among other acts that violate female sexuality, still continue to be practiced.
Recall that World Orgasm Day or Global Orgasm Day is held on the winter solstice. During these special 24 hours, it is believed that if people around the world have an orgasm, the energy created will have a widespread positive effect on earth and human well-being. National Orgasm Day is also celebrated on July 31 in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, the Netherlands, Canada and even South Africa.
