Chile is undoubtedly recognized worldwide as a country of high mining productivity, with copper extraction, one of main riches, standing out.
Every August 10, since 2009, the Day of the Miner is officially celebrated in Chile after the celebration was enacted as a Law of the Republic on that date, the same day that the Catholic saints' calendar celebrates San Lorenzo, recognized as the patron saint of miners and which gives rise to the celebration.
Another good news that stands out in this sector is the inclusion of women in mining, particularly since the nineties. Initially in administrative positions, today it is possible to see women engineers, off-highway truck operators and in various other historically male-dominated positions.
