The Anniversary of Cochabamba is celebrated on September 14 in honor of the revolution of 1810, remembering the liberation uprising that was led by the governor Francisco del Rivero, seconded by the rebel Esteban Arze. At present Cochabamba, according to INE data, is the third most populated department in the country, it is part of the central axis of Bolivia.
After taking political power, a Junta de Guerra was established, which began negotiations with Buenos Aires and adopted various administrative measures in relation to the Chuquisaca and La Paz juntas that had previously rebelled and declared their freedom.
Immediately after September 14, the Junta of Cochabamba resolved to send patriot forces to Oruro and La Paz to strengthen the revolutionary actions and stop the royalist army that, by order of Viceroy Abascal, was destined to Alto Perú.
During that march, the Battle of Aroma took place, which favored the patriots and constituted a transcendental victory. However, immediately, the troops of Esteban Arze retreated to Cochabamba, where they proposed to resist the troops of the realist José Manuel de Goyeneche who, meanwhile, crossed with his army the Desaguadero, after defeating the patriot army in Guaqui.
