The Fair and Pilgrimage in Honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the "mother of all fairs", the most important of all Jequetepeque, in the region of La Libertad, begins the day before with a variety of activities that until December 12 will allow to celebrate the religious syncretism in this part of the north of the country.
This traditional fair of the district of Guadalupe, province of Pacasmayo, has been celebrated since 1562, commemorating the arrival of the wooden replica of the Virgin of Guadalupe, patron saint of Extremadura, Spain, brought by the Extremaduran captain Francisco Perez de Lezcano, who after suffering an unjust imprisonment invokes the miracle of the Catholic image, and after obtaining the requested, travels to Rome, asks the Pope's authorization, has a wooden replica made and brings it to these lands.
